The Science of Engineering a Workout Playlist

Before you laugh me off as a quack, the playlist you use to work out with greatly impacts your mood and motivation during your workout as well as the intensity.

Step #1 - Choose 2 songs to warm up with, their beats per minute should be between 120 and 140. You can check out jog.fm to find songs in a certain genre and it will tell you the beats per minute.

Step #2 - Choose 3 fast songs for completing fat burning intervals. If the music is going fast you will unconsciously go faster to keep tempo. These should be 145 beats per minute or higher.

Step #3 - Choose 3 slightly slower songs to place between the 3 fast ones you picked in Step #2. These should be between 130 and 140 beats per minute. These are meant to give you a breather but not take you all the way down.

Step #4 - Choose 2 songs under 110 beats per minute for your cool down.

Sample Built Playlist:
1. I Love It - Icona Pop
2. Let's Go - Calvin Harris
3. Everybody Talks - Neon Tree
4. Let It Go -Dragonette
5. Down in Mississippi - Sugarland
6. 50 Ways to Say Goodbye - Train
7. Come and Get It - Selena Gomez
8. Blown Away - Carrie Underwood
9. Halo - Beyonce
10. Girl on Fire - Alicia Keys
